Abbey is a 2014 graduate of the Mary Pappert School of Music at Duquesne University, where she earned her Bachelor of Music in Performance and studied viola with Pittsburgh Symphony violist Marylène Gingras-Roy. She will return to Duquesne in the fall of 2016 to begin working towards her Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Music Education.
After completing her undergraduate work, Abbey spent a year living and working in the small town of Santiago de Chiquitos, Bolivia, where she served as a volunteer music teacher in an after-school music program for children and youth. During her time there, she taught beginning strings, directed the Youth Orchestra and Choir, and taught private strings and piano lessons. Abbey is very excited to share andexpand upon all she has learned from this incredibly rewarding experience, as she continues her teaching career in the Pittsburgh area.
Abbey is a native of Reading, Pennsylvania, where she began studying the piano at age 6 and violin at age 8. Since first moving to Pittsburgh in 2010, she has performed frequently with local orchestras in Butler, Johnstown, and Washington, PA.
