Summer Fine Arts Camps for Ages 6-10 and 10-15 Years

We bring students together in the summer to make music in unique ways. Whether it’s a musical theatre camp or learning how to make instruments using recycled materials (think science project), we are sparking your student’s creativity while he makes new friends. She’s finally getting to perform that solo or speaking part in a nurturing environment that emphasizes process and celebrates every effort.

Joy. Nurture. Teamwork. Self-Confidence. Community. – That describes our Fine Arts camps and it should. Why? Those are our studio values!

MUSICAL THEATRE CAMP / Ages 6-10 yrs:

Welcome to the legend of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table – like you’ve never seen it or heard before. En garde! This medieval marvel, complete with jousting knights, delightful damsels, and court jesters, will captivate your performer.

You’ll see her eyes light up as she takes the stage singing and dancing. He’ll shine as he takes on his first dramatic role. You’ll celebrate as you watch the teamwork evolve over the week with encouragement and support for each other. Self-confidence builds as this group works together for a fun musical production where everyone is the star! No audition required.

Students will meet at the studio location from 1:00pm to 4:00pm on the Monday through Thursday of camp week. On Friday students will meet from 2:00pm to 4:00pm at Cefalo’s, our performance venue.

The performance will be on the Friday evening (last day of camp) at 7:00pm. Call time for students will be 6:30pm.

DRAMATIC PLAY  WORKSHOP / Ages 6-10 yrs: This 5 week collaboration experience will build self-confidence and invite creativity as students explore the elements of theatre including improvisation, portraying a character, communicating emotion through voice and body language, practicing working as an ensemble cast, and learning stage directions. The interactive curricula will engage and inspire students to develop a love of theatre and appreciation for the variety of dramatic elements needed for an excellent performance by the cast.

TECHNICAL THEATRE WORKSHOP / Ages 10-15 yrs: Our philosophy is to turn over elements of theatre production to the students to create a sense of ownership and to start building a repertoire of skills for future productions.  This 5-week session empowers students to design and create the set, costume props, and programs for the August Musical Theatre camp with a focus on collaboration and teamwork.  In addition to exploring the aspects of technical theatre (i.e. costumes, sets, etc), students examine the roles of producer, director, and stage manager creating a vision and motivation for future theatre work.

MUSICAL THEATRE CAMP / Ages 10-15 yrs:

Our Musical Theatre Camp for ages 10 to 15 will present School House Rock Live! JR. with permission from Music Theatre International. During camp students will have the opportunity to further their skills in acting and stage direction, singing and vocal technique, and basic dance while working as a team to prepare for the performance at the end of camp.

In addition to camp week, students will be invited to participate in our camp “Kick-Off Night” giving the students a chance to meet the other campers as well as receive their script/music, 2 complimentary show tickets, and t-shirt. In addition to connecting with other campers, getting a chance to ask questions of the teacher, and collecting camp materials, students will also participate in a low-key audition. Auditioning is a common part of participating in most theatrical productions. We want to make sure our students have the opportunity to learn about and experience what an audition is like in a nurturing environment. During “The Audition Experience” students will learn about various types of auditions, participate in a cold read (reading from a script just received in small groups), participate in a basic dance call, and sing a prepared piece from the show in solo and small groups. This will not only help prepare students for future auditions, it will also give the director a chance to see which roles and solos will best fit each student’s voice and personality. Every student will receive a role. “Kick-Off Night: The Audition Experience” will be on Tuesday, July 23rd from 7:00pm to 8:30pm at the studio.

UKULELE ISLAND / Ages 5-7 yrs: See Summer Drop-off Camps to Register.

Here comes the smile after he learns his first chord on the Ukulele! She’ll be singing and strumming every day…Our Ukulele Summer Camp experience will teach basic ukulele chords and strumming with familiar tunes and songs from the Pacific Islands (featuring music from 3 animated movies). Each day includes singing, instruments, ensemble, dancing, craft projects and ukulele.

This is an ideal introductory experience for those students who eventually want to learn guitar. We have found that starting with Ukulele with only 4 strings brings early success that builds skills for an easier transition to guitar later.  We include a parent performance on the last day – so plan to arrive 15 minutes early on day 4.

Class meets 2 hours/day for 4 days. This is Drop Off Camp.  PLEASE NOTE: Each student will receive a Ukulele & Cloth Case with registration.  If your student has a ukulele, please notify the office in writing for a $40 discount:  info@kathysmusic.com
