Carloz Gil holds a Master’s in Trumpet Performance from Carnegie Mellon University, where he studied under George Vosburgh (Former Principal Trumpet of the Pittsburgh Symphony), Neal Berntsen (Second Trumpet of the Pittsburgh Symphony), and Pete Sullivan (Principal Trombone of the Pittsburgh Symphony). Mr. Gil also earned a Bachelor’s of Music Education from Sam Houston State University, studying with members of the Houston Opera and Houston Symphony.
As a seasoned performer, Mr. Gil served as fourth utility trumpet with the Pittsburgh Symphony for the 2016-2017 season. He continues to extensively freelance with ensembles such as the River City Brass Band, Pittsburgh Concert Chorale, Wheeling Symphony, Westmoreland Symphony, Resonance Works, and is a founding member of the Brass Roots Ensemble. He also performs with Latin band, Gavas Beats, which is frequently seen performing at Pittsburgh festivals throughout the year. In addition, Mr. Gil’s experience includes performances with the Brevard Music Center Orchestra in North Carolina, where he was a finalist for the solo competition, the Viterbo Orchestra in Rome, Italy, and the Orchestra of Nuevo Leon in Monterrey, Mexico.
Since 2009, Carloz Gil has been dedicated to teaching. He has led full marching band brass sections, served as a marching band tech, and was a private instructor for several 5A high schools and middle schools in Houston, Texas. Since moving to Pittsburgh in 2013, he has taught students from the Mt. Lebanon, Avonworth, and Fox Chapel School Districts. Mr. Gil has a comprehensive teaching curriculum, which he tailors to each student, helping them achieve success in region, area, and state competitions. He has experience teaching a range of students from beginners to high school students and various instruments from trumpet and french horn to trombone and tuba. Known for his powerful sound and impressive technique, Mr. Gil is routinely recognized as a creative and engaging teacher who makes lessons fun, effective, and uses technology to enhance learning.
