Meet Gloria Wide

Gloria Wide is working towards a Master of Music at Duquesne University where she studies with Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra violist, Marylene Gingras-Roy. Gloria earned a Bachelor of Music and a minor/certificate in African American Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2020. While at Wisconsin, she had the opportunity to study viola with Sally Chisholm and Eugene Purdue.

Gloria is originally from Chicago, and she has been playing the viola for 14 years. As a first-generation student of color, she has worked relentlessly to create opportunities for folks of all identities. In the summer of 2022, she will perform with the Symphony of Diversity at the National Conference of Race and Ethnicity in Higher Education (NCORE) in Portland, Oregon. She also participated as a panelist for the Iowa String Teacher Association Conference in the summer of 2021. In addition, she served as a student liaison between the Associate Dean of Student activities and the several student organizations she was a part of while at UW-Madison.

She has played in masterclasses for violists Elias Goldstein, Randolph Kelly, and Jordan Bak. She has worked with core members of Decoda and her trio to create an interactive program and performance at community spaces such as high schools and assisted living facilities.

Gloria will continue her studies at Duquesne this fall as she pursues an Artist Diploma.
