On October 29th, some of my students and I had the privilege of performing a costume recital for the residents of Broadmore Nursing Home in Bridgeville. The residents were so excited to see the kids in their Halloween costumes and to hear them play.
One of our goals in Music Artistry this year is to help others through our music. I was so proud of my students for sharing their time and musical gifts with the residents at Broadmore. They brought lots of joy and smiles through their spooky performances!

Some selections included were “Something in My Piano” by Maura the butterfly, and “You Don’t Scare Me Now” by Samantha the vampire, as well as “Peter, Peter Pumpkin Eater” by Drew the skeleton. Isabelle the cheerleader played the familiar song “Row, Row, Row Your Boat,” and then I said some magic words – (Alacazam, Alacazooky, row this boat on a stream that is spooky!) and poof! She played it in a minor key! Her big sister Abigail dressed as a witch played “Apprehension” even with a broken thumb, and Tommy played “Hedwig’s Theme” from Harry Potter. Elizabeth, a cute black cat, played “A Song About Cats,” and Max the pirate played “Pirate of the North Sea.” His younger sister Molly dressed as Dorothy played, “Halloween Night” and “Dancing with Frankenstein.” I brought along my three daughters who all performed in their own special way: Abigail danced to piano music, Caroline played her violin, and Nat played “Rain” on the piano. I ended the recital with Mozart’s “Fantasy.”
It was a wonderful and rewarding afternoon for all involved!
