Kindermusik is a delightful experience that uses music and movement to support your child’s growth emotionally, socially, physically, and cognitively.
Every class is led by an accredited educator and designed to make music the empowering springboard of your child’s early years. Perfect for bonding, brain-building, and preparing for future music lessons, Kindermusik gives your child the best possible start.
Since 2004, families at Kathy’s Music have trusted Kindermusik to spark joy and learning during the most important years of their child’s life. From bouncing with your baby to watching your 6-year-old proudly read their first piece of music, Kindermusik grows with your child every step of the way. Kindermusik levels 1-5 are offered in McMurray, Mt. Lebanon and Squirrel Hill.
Kindermusik classes are grouped by developmental stage
Level 1
(0-24 months)
Bond with your baby through musical play as we nurture early language, motor skills, and social development. You’ll love how those first steps in music lead to big possibilities.
Level 2
(Ages 2 to 3)
Sing your way through joyful routines with your toddler that strengthen language, rhythm, and self-regulation. Together you will play instruments, move to music, and build their confidence in this active, connection-filled class.
Level 3
(Ages 3 to 4)
Journey into music through singing, movement, and instrument play in this joyful drop-off class. Your preschooler will build confidence, rhythm, and social skills as they follow cues, take turns, and share their own musical ideas.
Level 4
(Ages 4 to 5)
Play in your first rhythm band while building musical literacy through keyboard activities, rhythm reading, and hands-on exploration of band instruments in this drop-off class for Pre-K students.
Level 5
(Ages 5 to 7)
Welcome to the Kindermusik Orchestra. In this two-year program, your child will read and write music, play pre-keyboard, string, and wind instruments, and collaborate in small group ensembles.

Sing, play, and grow together in one musical space, where older children lead by example and younger ones are inspired to explore. This rich learning environment strengthens family bonds and friendships as each child grows through powerful musical learning.

Your baby’s first music class and your new favorite hour
Bond with your baby through music, movement, and sensory play in this heartwarming class for our youngest learners. Every bounce, cuddle, and lullaby helps support your child’s early brain development while strengthening the bond between you.
You’ll explore songs, lap games, baby-safe instruments, and sweet rituals that bring joy into daily routines and spark lasting memories. Parents and caregivers learn how music supports language, motor skills, and emotional connection—gaining insight and confidence with every class.

2-3 years
The music class where every clap, wiggle, and word builds a brighter brain
In Kindermusik Level 2, your toddler becomes a joyful music maker, clapping, singing, moving, and discovering alongside you in every class. Designed for children ages 2 to 3, this class is full of wide eyes, big smiles, and little voices finding their song.
Your child will begin to recognize favorite songs, match motions to chants, and sing along with growing confidence. You’ll watch them beam with pride as they remember the steps to a circle dance or tap their rhythm sticks to the beat. These are the precious early moments where musical learning becomes part of who they are.
At the same time, their brain is lighting up in every direction. Music activates areas responsible for language, memory, coordination, and emotional regulation. These playful moments lay the foundation for learning in school and in life.
Your child will:
- Grow into a little singer with an enhanced vocabulary
- Explore movement that builds balance, coordination, and body awareness

Where songs are the map in your preschooler’s musical journey
Your child will enter the classroom as a musical explorer, ready to chart new territory with every beat, song, and story. In Kindermusik Level 3, we guide preschoolers on a joyful journey filled with rhythm, creativity, and connection.
Each class is like setting off on a musical trail where your child will climb new challenges, navigate group routines, and uncover the joy of making music together. Along the way, they will learn to follow cues, take turns, and share their own ideas through song and movement. These experiences build essential skills like patience, collaboration, and self-regulation—helping children learn to wait for their turn, match the group’s rhythm, and express themselves at just the right moment.
Your child will:

4-5 years
The Pre-K music class that feels like playing in a band
Designed for independent preschoolers, Kindermusik Level 4 is a joyful drop-off class that nurtures independence, confidence, and curiosity through hands-on music learning.
Your child will begin learning how music works by reading rhythms, recognizing musical symbols, and working together in small ensembles. Through purposeful movement, age-appropriate instrument play, and group activities, they build the foundation for future success in music lessons and in school.
Your child will:
- Learn to read and compose music
- Match pitch and strengthen their singing voice
- Learn keyboard geography with hands-on activities
- Enjoy more advanced ensembles
- Explore instruments like the violin, dulcimer, ukulele, handbells and more
- Discover musical terms and symbols
This class is ideal for the child who loves music and wants to play more. Students at this level are drawn to a particular instrument, curious about how music works, and are eager to be part of a musical group. It is structured enough to challenge, yet playful enough to delight.

5-7 years
The music class where your child joins the orchestra—and sometimes conducts it
Welcome to the Kindermusik Orchestra, where young musicians don’t just play the notes—they understand them, write them, and bring them to life.
In Kindermusik Level 5, your school-age child will step into the world of music as both performer and composer. They will learn to read and write music, discover form, and experience genres, while developing the skills to lead and collaborate in a musical ensemble.
Each class invites your child to take their place in the orchestra—sometimes at the glockenspiel, dulcimer, or recorder, and other times exploring djembe drums, piano, violin, and ukulele. Just like musicians in a symphony, they will learn to listen deeply, blend their sound with others, and read sheet music with fluency. And sometimes, they will step onto the conductor’s podium to shape the music themselves.
Your child will:
- Read and write music with the staff
- Master ensemble playing with string, wind, and pre-keyboard instruments
- Compose original music and explore improvisation
- Deepen pitch-matching and beat-keeping with songs from around the world
- Develop leadership as they guide and contribute to group music-making

0-3 years
One class. All together. A family music experience for ages 0 to 3.
A joyful music class for children ages 0–3 and their grownups. Designed for families with siblings or children at different stages, this mixed-age class brings babies, toddlers, and young preschoolers into one welcoming space where everyone can sing, play, and learn together.
While babies sway and bounce, toddlers explore instruments, and older children lead the way with dance and pretend play. Each activity is designed to meet your child where they are developmentally, while strengthening family bonds and building friendships that extend beyond class.
This class is perfect for siblings, single-child families, or anyone who values learning in a diverse, connected group.

What Kindermusik families ask us most
Can we enroll even though classes have started?
Yes! You can enroll at any time. Your tuition will be prorated based on when you enroll.
Am I obligated to stay for the whole school year?
No. You can pause at the end of any month by filling out our Change of Enrollment form by the last business day of the month.
Can we make up a class if we miss it?
Yes. We offer unlimited makeup classes as long as you are continuously enrolled. Enrolled families are invited to book their makeups through our Kathy’s Music app within 60 days.
My child is 4 or 5 years old and is really interested in piano. Can you help?
Yes! In Kindermusik Level 4, there is a weekly keyboard component introducing children to keyboard geography while also teaching them musical terminology and rhythm reading. This class offers the musical foundation they need now in order to thrive in lessons later. Bonus: there’s a big kid instrument focus each month with “hands-on” activities for violin, ukulele, djembe drums, dulcimer, recorder, glockenspiel, and more.
My child turns 2 in a few months. Should I register for Kindermusik Level 1 or Level 2 ?
We invite you to register for Level 1 to give your child the opportunity to explore and adjust to the rituals and routines of class before adding the structure that is coming in Level 2. This gives them a chance to be a leader (role-model) as the big-kid before promoting up and being the youngest. Confidence is everything.
Do you offer music for students ages 7 and up?
Absolutely! We offer group and private lessons on a variety of instruments for ages 6 to 106.
When do payments run?
When you enroll, you’ll pay tuition and an annual registration fee. Then monthly payments run from September through May on the 1st of each month. We split the school year into 9 equal payments for easier budgeting, so the amount stays the same regardless of how many weeks are in a given month.
How is summer Kindermusik different from school year classes?
We offer an 8 week summer session with different Kindermusik units than the school year. We offer mixed-age and concurrent classes, so you can bring the whole family at one time. The total tuition payment for the 8 weeks is due at the time of enrollment. Students ages 3-7 are invited to attend Drop Off Camps with a rotating weekly theme.
