COFFEE HOUSE

Coffee House will take place on Friday evening, February 21st at Mel’s Petit Cafe.

Coffee House is a chance for students to experience a casual performance in a unique venue. Middle school students and older are invited to perform at this special event.

COFFEE HOUSE GUIDE

Students sign up for this event through their teacher. Signups begin January 27th.

Plan to arrive 15 minutes ahead of your music set start time.

Students are invited to dress casually for this event.

We do not provide accompanists for this event, but students are welcome to perform with a backing track. Teachers will send backing tracks to the program coordinator prior to the event.

How long does each coffee house event last?

We plan for approximately 15 students/adults to perform at each coffee house. The goal is for each coffee house to last approximately 50-60 minutes.

Where are the coffee house events?

Our coffee house performances will take place at Mel’s Petit Cafe.

What do students wear?

We invite students to dress casually to match the chill atmosphere of this event.

When do I need to arrive?

Please arrive 15 minutes before your music set. Keep in mind that each coffee house lasts 45-50 minutes.

Who can attend?

All are welcome to the coffee house. There is no charge or limit to the number of people a student may invite. This is a time of celebration so invite your family and friends.

Can I attend a coffee house that I’m not performing in?

We encourage everyone to take advantage of other events to celebrate with the other students in our school.  Attending other performance events will enhance the learning experience by listening to and developing an appreciation of other instruments and repertoire.

What if the student needs to use a backing track?

The teacher will send the backing track to the program curator before the event.

What do I need to bring?

Bring your instrument in its case, along with your music if the selection(s) is not memorized. You do not need to bring your music bags, practice planners, or music stands.

How will I know when to perform?

Our teachers will introduce each student before the performance and invite them to come to the front. There are no programs to invite order flexibility for this casual performance experience.

PERFORMERS

  • Tune your instrument before the program. Take care to keep the instrument stable so that tuning will not be
    needed again before your performance.
  • Review the schedule to discover when you are performing.  Order is flexible.
  • Be ready to move to the platform when your teacher introduces you.
  • After your performance be sure to take your music with you (if using music).

AUDIENCE

  • Please arrive early in order to find a comfortable place to sit.
  • Turn off all cell phones and any electrical devices that may produce sound.
  • Respect the performers. Give each performer your full attention.
  • Please stay until the performance or event is completely over.
  • Avoid Flash photography as it is distracting. You may videotape and/or take flash photography as the performer is approaching or leaving the platform.
  • Enjoy! Your presence is the greatest affirmation!

To the performers: Remember that the audience is there for your support! They are all there cheering you on and wishing you the best. So, take a deep breath, relax and enjoy playing the piece you have worked so hard to learn!

To the audience: Please be the best support group possible for these students! They greatly appreciate your enthusiastic clapping and attentive listening. Show them that you care and that you are proud of their work!

Performance times will be announced closer to the event.
