It is the repetition over time that leads to skill mastery.

When skills are mastered, we see progress and we often observe a boost in confidence and sense of accomplishment.

Kindermusik

In Kindermusik, the repetition over time means that a child is not just singing the songs with all the words, but she is matching pitch or she is singing with more confidence or even with more musicality (expression, dynamics, etc). With instruments, the child is not just playing on the beat, but developing ensemble skills as he becomes more attuned to the different rhythms and how the piece actually fits together. In other words, the child is not just following along with the music, but developing a deeper understanding of the music itself.
When a child repeats a unit album or even or takes another year of Kindermusik in the same level, the repetition is often a celebration because the child knows the songs and feels a deeper sense of belonging. We also observe this child becoming a role model for other students. While he is mastering the skills that were only introduced the first time, he is also acting as a leader in class. That builds self-esteem and collaboration.

Private Lessons

In Private Lessons, focusing on a selection week after week may feel like she is just repeating, but that’s actually where the mastery comes in. With repetition, the student moves past learning the notes into a place where she can make the music come alive. With more intention, the selection can also be memorized, which provides freedom to get off of the page and into the music in an empowering way. The music can then become an extension of the student and an opportunity for self-expression.  This process builds repertoire (a set of pieces that a person has rehearsed and is prepared to perform), which not only gives you songs to play at any point in time, but also has other amazing benefits.

At Kathy’s Music, we are committed to helping students build repertoire so that they can share their music often and do so with confidence. With performance opportunities throughout the year, a student can select a variety of pieces to add to their performance set or polish a piece to perform again. Two opportunities are coming soon, including Spring Music Festival where students perform two selections for an adjudicator and our Spring Recitals in May.  We desire for every student in our program to participate in each of these events! If you’ve not yet signed up for Spring Recital with your teacher, we invite you to do so this week.
